Margo originally from the Netherlands where she developed a great love for the outdoors. Following graduate school, where she obtained a degree in psychology, it seemed to make little sense to spend her working hours in an office. This lead to a varied career in the outdoor industry, involving several years on the east coast as a rock and ice climbing instructor, five years as a therapist for one of the country’s leading wilderness therapy programs, and most recently two years with the National Outdoor Leadership School as a field instructor, teaching mostly rock climbing, backpacking and canyoneering courses. Margo continues to travel all over the country to teach for NOLS in places such as Devil’s Tower, Wyoming; the Needles, South Dakota; Red Rocks, Nevada; the Wind River Mountains, Wyoming. In between such trips Margo is happy to share her knowledge and love of climbing and nature more locally, working for First Ascent.

Margo has been rock climbing for 12 years. Her initiation into the sport happened on the east coast in the Adirondacks and Shawangunks of New York state. She still holds dear the traditional climbing ethics of those areas and loves nothing more than climbing long moderate trad routes. She won’t pass up the occasional sport climbing session, however, especially now that she lives in Bend.
